How to Create and Use Menus

How to Create and Use Menus support guide step 1

Custom Menus organize products into focused POS layouts. A business can create menus for different services, locations, schedules, product groups, or workflows.

The Custom Menus feature must first be enabled under Manage → Settings → Feature Control.

Open the Menu Builder

  1. Select Manage from the navigation bar.
  2. Select Menus from the management sidebar.
  3. The Menu Builder opens.

The page is divided into two main areas:

  • All Products contains products available to add to the selected menu.
  • Current Menu contains products already assigned to the selected menu.

Use the Help panel

Turn Help on to display the Menu Builder’s built-in instructions.

The Help panel explains how to:

  • Enable Admin Tools
  • Select or create a menu
  • Add products by double-clicking, double-tapping, or dragging
  • Identify products already assigned to the selected menu
  • Remove products with X
  • Save the completed menu

Turn Help off when additional screen space is needed.

Viewing Mode: Admin Tools Off

With Admin Tools off, users can review the existing menu configuration.

Users can:

  • Select an existing menu
  • Review products in the selected menu
  • Show or hide product categories
  • Compare available products with assigned products
  • Open the Help panel

Menu creation, deletion, and product-assignment controls are unavailable.

Editing Mode: Admin Tools On

Turn Admin Tools on to create menus and change their contents.

Admin mode displays:

  • Add or Remove Menus
  • Product-assignment controls
  • X controls for removing products
  • Save Changes

Menu changes are not complete until Save Changes is selected.

Understand the General menu

General is the default menu.

Products from Product Management appear in General by default. This provides a complete basic POS menu even when no custom menus have been created.

The General menu is identified as General (Default) in the menu selector.

Create a custom menu

  1. Turn Admin Tools on.
  2. Select Add or Remove Menus.
  3. Enter a name in New menu name.
  4. Select Add.
  5. The new menu is added to the menu selector and becomes the current menu.

Use a clear name that staff will understand when selecting menus on the POS. Examples might include Breakfast, Dinner, Retail, Services, or Seasonal.

Select Cancel to close the window without adding another menu.

Select a menu to manage

Use the Select Menu dropdown under Current Menu.

The list includes:

  • General (Default)
  • Each custom menu created for the business

After choosing a menu, the two product areas update for that menu:

  • All Products shows products available to assign.
  • Current Menu shows products already assigned.

A product can remain available in General while also being included in a custom menu.

Filter products by category

Both sides of the Menu Builder provide independent category controls.

Available-product categories

Select Show Categories under All Products to filter the products available for assignment.

Current-menu categories

Select Show Categories under Current Menu to filter products already assigned to the menu.

Select Hide to collapse either category list.

Product categories are configured on the Products page. Menu Builder uses those existing categories; it does not replace product-category management.

Add a product to a menu

  1. Turn Admin Tools on.
  2. Select the menu from Select Menu.
  3. Find the product under All Products.
  4. Add it using one of these methods:
    • Double-click the product.
    • Double-tap it on a touchscreen.
    • Press and hold, then drag it into Current Menu.
  5. Confirm that the product now appears in Current Menu.
  6. Repeat for additional products.
  7. Select Save Changes.
  8. Acknowledge the save confirmation.

Once a product is assigned to the selected menu, it no longer appears in that menu’s available-product list.

Product cards can display information inherited from Product Management, including:

  • Product name
  • Category
  • Price
  • Stock information

Changes to the product itself—such as its price, description, tax settings, or inventory configuration—should be made from Manage → Products.

Remove a product from a menu

Removing a product from a menu does not delete the product from CrumbsOS.

  1. Turn Admin Tools on.
  2. Select the menu.
  3. Find the product under Current Menu.
  4. Select X.
  5. Confirm that the product returns to All Products.
  6. Select Save Changes.

The product remains available in Product Management and can be added to the menu again later.

Save menu changes

Select Save Changes after adding or removing products.

Saving is necessary to make the updated menu available on the POS. Confirm the save message before leaving Menu Builder.

If changes are not saved, the POS may continue displaying the previous menu configuration.

Delete a custom menu

Deleting a menu removes the menu configuration. It does not delete its products from Product Management.

  1. Turn Admin Tools on.
  2. Select Add or Remove Menus.
  3. Find the custom menu in the list.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Confirm that the menu has been removed.
  6. Select Cancel to close the window.

The default General menu is not included in the custom-menu deletion list.

Before deleting a menu, confirm that staff no longer need its POS layout.

Use a Menu on the POS

  1. Select POS from the navigation bar.
  2. Locate Select menu above the product area.
  3. Open the menu dropdown.
  4. Choose General or a custom menu.
  5. The product area updates to show products assigned to that menu.
  6. Use the category tabs to further filter the displayed products.
  7. Select products normally to add them to the current order.

Changing the selected menu only changes which products are displayed. It does not clear the current order.
